Projects in the Works

NAEA met on Wednesday to talk about current projects and ideas. Here's what we discussed:

Current Projects

IUP Day
NAEA will have a booth at IUP Day, the annual student organization fair, taking place this Saturday Sept. 8 from 12-4 at the Memorial Field House. Hopefully we will be able to recruit some new members!

Murals
The YMCA would like us to do jungle-themed murals for a children’s playroom area. More information will come on this topic very soon.

T-Shirts
NAEA will be selling t-shirts again this year as our big fundraiser. This year we are going for something simpler and more appealing to the masses. If you’d like to make a design, remember that it must say IUP Art Department on it somewhere, though it doesn’t have to be prominent. Some ideas thrown around were paint splatters, and the Art Student Owl meme, though I think we might run into copyright issues with that particular idea. Any other ideas are welcome. Also remember to keep the color scheme to a minimum because the less ink colors we need, the cheaper we can get the shirts. If you come up with a design either post it to the Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/107556952646405/ or send it in an email.

PAEA Conference: Oct. 5-Oct. 7
Aly, Rachel, and Brittany will be presenting at the PAEA Conference in October. They will be discussing the connection between landscape art and spirituality, referencing Dr. Ciganko's in-progress book.

Possibilities:
Bright Ideas
There is currently a History of Indiana PA exhibit going on at the University Museum at Sutton Hall. We would like to put on a Bright Ideas event for children in the area. For Bright Ideas, we take the kids through the museum to learn about the artwork and then they create their own art based on what they learned. The exhibit runs from now until October 27. The tentative date for Bright Ideas is October 20.

Classes at the Artist’s Hand Gallery
The Artist’s Hand Gallery is providing elementary art classes for three Saturdays each month in October and November. This is a good opportunity for members of NAEA to get out into the community and do what we want to do: teach!

Trips
This year we are thinking of going on trips to artsy venues in Pittsburgh such as the Carnegie Museum, The Mattress Factory, the Warhol, the glass factory, and more.
